St Peters CofE Primary

Collective Worship

Collective Worship is at the heart of school life at St Peter’s. Our Collective Worship focuses on learning about our school values, singing to praise and worship and celebrating the successes of the school, pupils and staff.

Collective Worship follows a weekly model:

Monday Head Teacher led Whole School Worship focused on our Value of the Term
Tuesday Key Stage Singing
Wednesday Key Stage Worship
Thursday Rev. Tim leads a Key Stage Worship or classes have a Class Worship
Friday Celebration Worship as a whole school with families

We meet as a school on a Monday morning and this is a wonderful way to start the week together and focus on our value of the term through a Bible story for example. Our Monday worship is then used as a basis for class worship on a Thursday which is led by our Reflection leaders who are one of our Junior Leadership teams at St Peter’s.

We sing in many of our Worships and the children love to learn new songs and practice for upcoming celebrations such as Christmas and Easter in our Tuesday singing Worships. We take this opportunity too, to explain the meaning of the hymns and songs being sung.

Our Key Stage Worships allow for more age focused Worship and the opportunity for more children to be involved than Whole school Worships. We are very fortunate that Rev. Tim and Katie from St Peter’s Church lead exciting and engaging Worship weekly in our school and in the Church itself at time throughout the year.

Our Reflection Leaders take part in Collective Worships, lead their Class Worships and help to make each term’s Worships better and better through feedback and evaluation sessions.

Collective worship gives pupils and school staff the opportunity to:

  • Engage in an act of community.
  • Express praise and thanksgiving to God.
  • Be still and reflect.
  • Explore the big questions of life and respond to national events.
  • Foster respect and deepen spiritual awareness.
  • Reflect on the character of God and on the teachings of Christ.
  • Affirm Christian values and attitudes.
  • Share each other's joys and challenges.
  • Celebrate special times in the Christian calendar.

Class Worship

Class worship takes place in classes every other week. It is led by the two reflection leaders who will lead the call and responses, read bible stories, pray and reflect upon the recent bible stories that have been talked about in assemblies and they will reflect upon the value of the term.

They have also been writing class prayers, this term.
