Welcome to Year 6
In Year 6, we have Toucan Class taught by Mrs Julie Hearn and
Phoenix Class which is taught by Mr James Walker
Miss Leah Hopkins and Miss Carol Morris help and support across both classes.
Year 6 is going to be filled with unique and exciting opportunities and experiences for everyone.
Now the children are in Year 6, they have many chances to take on important (and vital) jobs in and around the school. Year 6 children may be found keeping the office in order, leading play times for younger children, carefully maintaining the accounts of the tuck trolley and also demonstrating the school values with pride and maturity.
Year 6 is a challenging year and the children work very hard towards their SATs. However, they also have plenty of opportunities to have fun.Throughout the year, the children go to camp, attend lifeskills, explore Crealy and perform in the end of year production.
We have very high expectations of all of our children but particularly those in Year 6. Having travelled through primary school we expect them to show an excellent understanding of how to be a representative of St.Peter's. Over the years, we have provided as many opportunities as possible – academic, cross-curricular and pastoral – to allow the children to grow, develop and make the most of their strengths. This is their opportunity to demonstrate all that they have learned.
It is our aim that our boys and girls should be fully prepared for secondary and leave us with the confidence to do well in senior school, attend universities or other training opportunities and move on to embark successfully on a wide range of careers.
We kick off Year 6 with an amazing residential trip to Barton Camp. This is a fun filled, jam packed adventure that really bonds the children and teachers. We went to camp on Monday 23rd until Friday 27th September 2019. Over the week, children:
- swam in the outdoor heated pool every day (including a spooky 'night time' swim!)
- climbed the enormous Crook Peak
- designed camp t-shirts
- took part in team challenges
- had fun on the zip wire and obstacle course
- played midnight hide and seek
- let off steam at Noah's Ark Zoo Farm
Everyone had an absolutely fantastic week getting to know each other and bonding as a Year 6 team.
Our class book is Clockwork by Philip Pullman
The first class book this year is Clockwork by Philip Pullmann.
It is an amazing short novel by the very famous author which we shall we using to magpie vocabulary, focus on in reading comprehension and to inspire our creative writing.
Our next book will be Holes by Louis Sacher.......which we shall start towards the end of Term 1.
This term’s homework project is based on Africa to link with our topic: Journeys.
The children have until after half term to produce a project about the whole continent, a few of the countries in Africa or just one that they have a particular interest in.
They could do some artwork, a poster, a power point presentation, make some food or anything really that shows what they have learnt about this magnificent continent.
We are lucky in year 6 to have cooking sessions with Miss Anderson each week. This week the children made stir fry and the results were delicious!
